”The name’s Jack, and I’m the strongest man in the world,” he said smugly. 

The beautiful green-skinned alien woman sitting next to him at the bar asked cattily, “The whole world, huh?” 

“Well, not this world, and not your world…in fact, probably not any of the worlds you’ve ever heard of.”

“Then how am I supposed to prove your claim?” 

Jack answered with a smile, “You can just take my word for it, babe.”

“I prefer to get my information from reliable sources,” she responded flirtatiously.

“Then you’re in luck, doll-baby, there’s no one more reliable than me!” Jack retorted cockily while pointing at his chest with his thumb.

“Like I haven’t heard that one a trillion times.” 

Unimpressed, and bored with talking to him, she glanced at a visio-screen implanted in the bar top. It was showing a commercial for the hottest new green and purple fizzy alien soft drink. With a brush of her hand, the channel changed. An image of a dark, dragon-shaped spaceship appeared on screen. She leaned closer to study it, her eyes narrowing. Jack leaned forward also, trying hard not to look as intensely interested as he was. The girl could see through his facade. She raised a curious eyebrow at him. “You know what that is?” she asked.

”Oh, everyone knows what that is,” answered Jack, waving a disinterested hand at the screen. “That’s a Nagrak ship. They’re the baddest dudes in this quadrant.” Jack took a sip of his drink, shot the girl a sly smile and a wink, and followed it up with, “‘Cept for me, that is.”

She rolled her eyes and looked away from the visio-screen.

“And what’s your interest in it, darlin’?” he asked. “You act casual, but I saw the look in your eye when that drago-ship came onto the viewer. What’s your angle? You on the run from them, or somethin’?”

”Not exactly,” she said mysteriously, and then looked towards the stage.

Jack was about to ask more when the three-mouthed alien lounge singer who had been serenading the room finished his song. Once he had exited the stage and the light applause died away, the emcee announced the next act with a strident voice:

“And now, what you’ve all been waiting for! The most gorgeously glamorous, glitteringly gritty, graphically graceful grrrls of the ga-ga-ga-galaxeeeeeeee! THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GORGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
